Dr Valerie Odero-Marah

Welcome to the Odero-Marah Lab!

Our research interests revolve around understanding the process of prostate and breast cancer metastasis to bone. We are particularly interested in epithelial-mesenchymal transition and antagonizing that process with natural products. We are also interested in basic health disparities.

MY LATEST RESEARCH

My recent research shows interaction between cancer cells and nerve cells. Above is a video showing conditioned media from prostate cancer cells overexpressing Snail transcription factor induces nerve cells to extend neurites.

I have recently delved into health disparities research. I am interested in why African Americans die more from prostate and breast cancer compared to any other race. I am looking at High Mobility Group A 2 (HMGA2) and Snail transcription factor as possible markers that may predispose African Americans to more aggressive cancer.
